From the late 19th century, steamships known as ‘Banana Boats’ embarked on remarkable journeys across the globe.
They carried tropical produce and migrants from the Caribbean, Central America, Africa, and the
Pacific to distant shores. These ships were more than just trade vessels — they
brought cultures, dreams, and traditions that would go on to
reshape the social fabric of nations. With little
idea of what lay ahead, their voyagers
embodied a spirit of optimism
that shone everywhere
they went.
